Dave gets help from the best

DIDSBURY Golf Club assistant professional Dave Mackinnon is in strict training to help the superb work done by StreetGames in association with Sport 4 Life.

Last year over 250,000 children in the country took part in activities organised by Street Games and one of the sports they give help to is golf via the Golf Foundation’s excellent work with Tri-Golf. 

After being offered a place by StreetGames to take part in the hugely successful Manchester 10k, which takes place in Manchester on May 17.  Dave is looking for a time under 40 minutes for the course which weaves through the city centre in an event which attracts thousands of people supporting a great range of charities. 

Dave has also enrolled for the Urbanathlon which takes place in Manchester, based around the City of Manchester stadium and attracted nearly 700 competitors when it was staged for the first time in 2008. And to help Dave achieve his objectives he has been receiving some top training and tips from former GB track star Diane Modahl over some obstacles on the Didsbury course.

Diane was one of the country’s best-ever middle-distance runners and also appeared on ‘I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here’ a few years ago and now along with a busy family life with her three young children also takes time out to help support worthy causes such as StreetGames & Sport 4 Life.

John Dwan, from Sport 4 Life, said: “Dave is very determined to help children get into sport, whether or not they choose golf and he is looking for sponsors for his two events to help boost the funds for Street Games. We still have a few places for runners in the Manchester 10k and are starting to recruit runners for the unique 5k Urbanathlon that takes place on Sunday August 2, based at SportCity“
