The chess club was established by Osman Caka, now a UK citizen living in Clayton, East Manchester but he is originally from Kosovo. Osman fled the country with his family during the 1990`s after his son was killed during the war in Kosovo.

The chess club plays in the Manchester Chess Federation league and also supports the New East Manchester Rapidplay Tournament held at the City of Manchester stadium, home of Manchester City F.C. The club has many players from eastern European countries including Kosovo and Albania where chess has a much higher profile and is played by many people.

Sport 4 Life has also supported the club to successfully apply for community grants to support and develop the clubs activities as well as donating specialist equipment and helping the club attend away chess league matches with the use of the Sport 4 Life minibus.
