Sports Minister to attend Street Games Festival 2007
The Rt Hon Gerry Sutcliffe MP (Minister for Sport) lent his support for the 2007 North West Street Games Festival held on Friday 31st August 2007 at SportCity in East Manchester. Over 1,000 young people from across the North West competed across eleven sports & activities including: Sportshall Athletics, 3 V 3 Basketball, Kwik Cricket, High 5 Netball, Tag Rugby, Military Challenge, Futsal, Dance & new for 2007 is Cheerleading, Handball & Graffiti Art.
Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe said: “Street Games is a fantastic programme that offers young people from disadvantaged areas the chance to do more sport - such as football, athletics and basketball - and lead a more active lifestyle. The health benefits are obvious but Street Games does more than that. It also builds stronger communities and helps young people fulfil their potential through volunteering and coaching opportunities.”
