'EAFA and the Great Britain Amputee Football team would like to express our gratitude for the support that sport 4 Life has continued to show our organisation by helping to develop awareness and opportunities for our disabled athletes' Active Image

Local soccer stars enjoyed success in an international Amputee Soccer Tournament in Russia as they returned with silver medals.

Led by skipper Dave Gibson, the GB team for the small-sided soccer competition played in Volgograd against 12 other teams from across the world including the hosts, Iran, Sierra Leone and Moldova. They came through their group stages and won their semi-final to meet the powerful host Russian team and although they lost 5-1 they could only be proud of their efforts in such a tough competition.

Dave said: "My team, who are all from Greater Manchester, were brilliant in every way and the hard work they have put into many months of training certainly paid dividends.

"I would also like to thank the people who have helped us on this momentous and successful journey including Manchester City, Man United, Sport4Life, the Amelia Trust, CWM and G and A Engineering plus local shops in Northenden.

"Our organisation is always looking for anyone who wishes to help and to recruit new players and more information can be found on our website www.gbaf.co.uk"
